@izamarpink, I've heard within the first year it's easiest to change baby's name. But just what I have heard. No personally experience!

I think the father may have to sign rights over? not 100% sure.... you could research it for your area

Depends on the state.

in California it's very very hard to change a name, you both have to go to court since he's on the birth certificate and claimed paternal rights the day he was born and you didn't contest it prior to or at the birth. birth certificates are law. you could just unofficially call him by your last name, I knew kids with different names than what was in the yearbook and things, just documentation will need to be his legal last name. also, changing the last name even legally does nothing in terms of paternal rights and custody. he has to volunteer to sign them over in court regardless of the name. good luck!

My brother in laws baby momma wanted to do the same thing and he had to sign papers for it. He didn't sign his rights over because he still pays child support but she had to have his signature before she could do it.
