My son will be 2 on July 4th. When he gets very frustrated (because it's time to leave, he can't watch tv, basically whenever things don't go his way) he bangs his head on the nearest surface. The wall, the floor, the couch...literally anything. His pediatrician said its normal for his age, he's not hurting himself, and he'll grow out of it. We're very very pale (redheads) and he gets awful looking bruises on his forehead. Any tips? Advice? Are you in the same boat?

You will have to start some form of discipline to let him know that you are boss and that is not okay. What ever form you feel comfortable with weather its time out, or a pop on the hand, something to let him know. He will start to catch the drift.

Get him a stress ball that he can squeeze instead. That's works well for my son.

for his age though it will probably have to be a very light pop on the hand and firm NO NO!

@mother.of.angels, I know he's trying to express his emotions so we're not going to be using discipline. I don't want him to think showing emotion is bad. I want him to have a way to deal with it.
