I believe its about four inches. It doesn't harm the baby at all & it could cause damage if they do it wrong. you could always get pain meds through an IV or give birth naturally. As far as how it feels, I have no idea.

since i got the epidural now when its cold the cold hurts my back

Im not sure how it feels because i had an all natural birh but some have had side effects from it while others have not

when I was in labor with my son I was practically begging for it by the time I got to the front door, its basically a needle that goes into your lower back. It sounds painful but when I had it I was so focused on my labor pains that I had no idea it was even done. I didnt feel any pain, but then again everyones different. it doesnt hurt the baby at all it just relaxes you. the medicine is of course running through your bloodstream but only the tiniest amount goes to the baby definitley not enough to effect him or her.

I've had it twice and no side effects! I also want it with this baby

it iv extremely uncomfortable, mine only took to one side of my body, and recovery time is alot slower then without having one but it doesn't cause harm to your baby. you could always ask for a low dose then up it ass you need them too.

I had to get a c section done and they stuck my back a lot trying to do a spinal and when that didn't work they tried the epidural. The epidural really didn't hurt going in, the spinal was awful. It only numbed my left leg so I ended up going under anyway. I didn't really like the way the epidural felt where it worked but I also wasn't in full on labour. All of that being said, they had a ton of medicine going through me and the baby came out just fine. The problems she had came from my medical issues and not the epidural.

I had an epidural and only felt a little discomfort when he stuck the needle in. After that I was completely out of it. I don't remember really anything after that. It relaxed me so much I couldn't keep my eyes open. My mom told me she would try and wake me up and I would wake up and answer her but then my eyes would just roll back into my head and I would be out again. It also caused me to start shaking. I couldn't stop. It was like I was cold but I wasnt. I ended up getting a c section because i got a fever but if I didn't there would have been no way I could have given birth naturally because I couldn't move my legs or butt at all and I couldn't stay awake. I think it's worth it for the pain though.
