So I didn't take my husband's last name when we got married because there are literally 4 of us genetic Van Camps left. Gpa, Dad, Aunt (who can't have kids), and me. My husband's family is HUGE, (90+ immediate family). My MIL asked what the baby's last name was going to be (some BS about getting an engraving) and my husband said to just put his last name, because regardless he'll still be their grandson. Then she got all bitchy saying "Well what does your marriage license say?" and losing her mind over it. And now because of all this he wants his last name hyphenated with mine for our son. Van Camp-Mendenhall. That is just so ugly! We were originally going to combine our names to become "Van Hall" to honor both sides and start a new family line. He was all for it, but then the WEEK BEFORE THE WEDDING the same shit happened. He is so scared of his traditionalist family blacklisting him over a goddamn name. I'm so upset over this because he could be here any day and my baby doesn't have a last name...

I was thinking of the same thing. just ended up giving our daughter his last name because we got married and I changed mine on our license as well . I mean I understand your families last name is done after you. but it is you and you're husband now? but then again it's your and his decision together

@myjulyprincesseli, That is why I wanted to combine our names, so it was OUR name, and part of my name continues. I hate most of his family and refuse to take their name. I married him, not them. He was all for it, and now he's backing down again and I just don't know what to do. I love him and want us both to be part of our son's namesake but he is making it harder and harder! I even let him choose our son's first and middle name so it wouldn't be an issue...

ah :( well hopefully he works with you on the last name because it would be great to have your own unique last name where its not all his or your fam. Hopefully it all works out for both of you♡

I still haven't change my last name! But its was a little touch for my to change it before my daughter was born! Because we got married 12/15/2012 Our daughter was born 1/1/2013 But both my baby's have my Husband's last name! I wanted it that way not him! He is Latino so there country the children carry both names!
