I'm having a really hard time with my dad passing away...I've never been so sad. I'm a fan of counseling and therapy. Have any of you been to grief counseling? Did you benefit from it? I've never lost anyone close to me ever. I don't know how to deal with this sadness.

I've never thought to do counseling. Usually if I'm sad about someone dying I cry about it until i feel better, or I write down my feelings, or I call my best friend, but my best friend and I each lost a parent within a short time of eachother so we both grieved together... Guess that's not really normal, but finding someone who knows what you're going through is really important.

@kimberlyyyy, I read that a good way to grieve is to start a book and write down every memory you have, big and small, of that person. I think that may be beneficial to me. I've just never lost anyone. Even my great grandparents are both still alive. (96 & 99 years old!). So, it's just a strange concept I'm not sure out how grasp. "Crying it out" only makes me feel terrible.

@kimberlyyyy, I had two house fires when I was a freshman and a sophomore in highschool, and shortly after I started having terrible terrible nightmares. I started therapy and it helped stop the nightmares. I loved it. That's why I'm thinking maybe grief counseling. But, I just don't know..

My aunt died when I was 12. I knew her but I didn't feel sad, it wasn't until my grandpa died 2 days before Aarem's 1st birthday that I really experiences a painful death. I think the first time you grieve the loss of someone is the hardest. I guess I've blocked out those times but yeah, that was rough. Maybe talking to someone professional would help. My best friend's mom died 2 years ago on March 2nd and on April 12th it will be the 2 year mark of my dad passing. As I've realized, grieving is a different journey for everyone. Any emotion you feel at any time is a "normal" one, whether you feel depressed, angry, numb...it's all normal, and it comes in waves. I like the idea of writing down memories. It's a good way to remember our lost ones. I'm sorry you're going through this Jenna. I partially understand since I've also lost my father, but I'll never know how you really feel. All I know is I really hope you find peace in your father's passing in your own time, however short or long of a time frame that may be. And Faye should remind you that you are blessed, and you both have someone who loves you looking out for you and guiding you in life.
