It's all in the moms opinion. Personally I wouldn't say the benefits outweigh the risks. I think as long as moms do their research and know what the risks are then more power to them. @bdh5990
@cmbwalker, yes! I was addressing the moms who were saying that it is dangerous for the fetus. It does affect the fetus and mom because it is a method of pain relief. However, there is very low risk to baby and I don't feel like it's fair to scare other moms who are considering an epidural for pain relief. I work with CRNAs who have educated me on benefits and risks and the benefits outweigh the risks.
Just an FYI there are legitimate studies that show the epidural can and often does affect the baby by comparing babies who have been birthed with and without an epidural. @bdh5990 There is reliable info on Google, people just don't always know how to sort the reliable from the unreliable.
