Fiancé and I decided we will be the only ones at the hospital during L&D. Depending on time of birth we will allow family to visit after baby and I are in recovery. Is this common or will people be upset? We don't know what we are having so i know the anticipation is a bit high.

Do ppl seriously have family there?!? I can't imagine having anyone other than the one person who is the labor coach whether it's your SO or your mom or something.

Choice is 100% yours! My sisters and mom were supposed to be in the room with sons dad. I had my sisters take pictures and video tape the birth. My mom was more help with the labor than his dad was! My little guy came so fast that while my granny was in the room visiting during labor she ended up getting shoved into the corner and was there too! It was a party up in there!!!! I've known people to do it both ways. But those first pictures of him I will always cherish! And dads are too emotional to be taking photos!

You mean no visitors while in labor? If anyone gets upset, that's their problem. It's totally common to want to be alone for that. You do what you feel most comfortable with. You're the one doing all the hard work (:

I'm doing the same thing girl, don't let them upset you, my family is trying to make me feel bad for it but I tell them this is our baby when you deliver her you can decide. only my mom and and is gonna be there and my dad's gonna be coming in and out only because we're so close.

I'm somewhat estranged from my family. I'm close with my dad but he will be out of town the week before and after my due date. I would rather my mother never meet this child. My fiancé's family is very close and I adore them. I would have no problem having his mom being there however she will be looking after my son during my hospital stay. I would think most people would be relieved to not sit there and wait around like my family did with my son. I was in labor for 19 hours. I feel like it's a lot to ask of someone to wait around that long. I want to be settled and showered before i have a ton of people in my face, taking pictures of me. I don't look back on my first experience fondly, in fact I look miserable. I remember becoming incredibly frustrated trying to breastfeed for the first time with everyone watching and "trying to help" shouting opinions across the room. I'm looking forward to those first few moments alone with my child. Especially since I have no idea if I'm carrying a son or a daughter. I want some time for that to sink in completely. Thanks for all your advice ladies.
