@mrsgraves, it's the Down syndrome test that shows the gender as well! And mine only took 5 days to come back. It's done at 10 weeks normally

@2016momof2, thank you. @candacelouise I have a history muscular dystrophy in my family. my first aunt is a carrier, would it show that?

@mrsgraves, I don't think so... But I'm not too sure! And no I don't think it'll be too late. Your doctor will normally ask you if you want the Down syndrome blood work done. And I guess ask him then if he will do the gender then as well. My doctor does it routinely with that blood work, I didn't had to ask or anything so I'm not too sure how it works if they don't automatically do it

@candacelouise, he said down the line we could do a genetics test but asked me if it came out bad would I still keep the baby. I was like yeah I'm not killing my baby! and he was like then there is really know need to.... thank you for the info!

@kelseys, I was told some doctors won't tell you. I Dont know I haven't had a baby since 2008 and they didn't say anything about anything like this whole gender blood test. all new to me..

@kelseys, yeah it all depends on your doctor! :/ I know you can request it though! @mrsgraves ohh well than doesn't sound like he is gonna do the genetics test. So the gender test would be out the window! You're almost there to be able to get the gender on a sonogram!

I wonder why they don't tell us, that's kind of stupid. I had the same doctor for my first and half of my second pregnancy and she always told me that it was a different test. I switched hospitals and doctors which is a million times better then what I had and I really hope that they tell me since I just did the test friday

@candacelouise, the OB that I had with my first two pregnancies said they only looked at the gender if something on the test came back positive.. I hope my new OB will tell me

@candacelouise, I'm still going to try. yeah I'm all most there but the wait I'd killing me Lol! @kelseys you would think they would tell ya. But these days doctors are different.

@kelseys, hmmm that's weird! Well maybe because it cost more? So they only do the further testing (gender) if the find something wrong... That's the only thing I can think of. It's hard cause every doctor does it differently! I think my doctor is the only one who does the gender test that way, out of all the others at the same hospital.

@mrsgraves, just know it can be pretty costly! I haven't heard of any insurances covering it when the doctor doesn't "demand" it. And it's a patient want. Just a heads up!

@candacelouise, that makes sense tho, and the OB I had, had her office closed for money reasons so maybe that's why too. well the new hospital I'm at is supposed to be one of the best ones in the states because of it cancer center but the doctors in other departments are amazing and they have money to do stuff so hopefully lol

@kelseys, hahaha yeah it all just gets billed to your insurance! But they don't normally cover it so watch out.

@mrsgraves, yes, several girls I have seen say a couple hundred. So might wanna check with how your doctors office would bill it out, and how much your insurance will pay of it
