I spoke to my physician about this and he said he's heard a lot of mommies asking the same thing. However, this is mainly done when the baby is born 'NOT a full term'. If baby is born full term than you an also if you wait on the umbelical cord a minute longer that can also harm the baby because you are giving it TOO MUCH blood. Speak to your ob before deciding anything. Blessings. 😊

@mrspavlides, Good to know! I'm still doing research on it and read women do it full term or if the baby comes too early, but Ill ask my doctor questions about it. =)

@theirmommy_2, Honestly I wouldn't know, but I watched my sister birth her son and her doctor cut the cord ASAP. As I said above I would ask questions and or do your research on it more.

it helps so much! granted I have only had one birth so far but he was so healthy right out of the womb. Even though he didn't cry, his o2 stat was perfect. I left the cord on for at least 5 minutes. I think I will do the same this time or even longer maybe

@mrspavlides, Yes but than again medicine is changing and new things are being taught, this could be one of them, who knows. I'll still question my doctor about it and see what he says.

@showersoverflowers, I just read a couple of articles about holding off on clamping and cutting, they say it's a "hippy" things to do but after doing more research and studying on it(doctors), it actually shows to be beneficial. It's typically used on preterm babies to help them not get infections but can also help full term babies also. Again as I keep stating I would ask questions and do research on it, I could be reading on the good and not finding the bad on it. Lol, also because I don't want to have a debate with women who disagree. Haha.

my doctor was actually the person who recommended it to me. that was two years ago and I had no clue delayed clamping was a thing before that

@showersoverflowers, I guess some doctors practice it and others don't, I didn't know about it up until recently. Definitely something to keep in mind.
