I didn't notice mine until I was like 18 weeks but I'm a little heavyset too. Plus you see yourself everyday so someone else might see the increase but you won't.

Well everyone is different. I saw a picture of a woman that was like 32 weeks pregnant and she looked maybe 15 weeks.

I think it just depends on the person. My coworker is 3 weeks behind me pregnant. She's had a bump for a while now. I just started seeing my this week! I put on a shirt for work and looked in the mirror like "Whoa! That happened overnight!"

Your friend is probably just bloating I don't think you can start showing at 8 weeks. I started showing around 4 months I just had a small bump barely noticeable that I was pregnant but I think most ppl start showing around 5 months
