Is it normal to distance yourself from family members after one passed away?

Is it normal to distance yourself from family members after one passed away?

I'm starting to notice this about myself, my grandfather passed away 11.14.15 & instead of me wanting to be closer to other family members, I'm distancing myself! I have the type of family that's always having dinners, birthday parties, just plain old get togethers. Idk but every family event we've had except for thanksgiving & Christmas I haven't attended? & when I did attend those I was the quite one, avoiding conversation, which is not the normal me. Today is my aunt and uncles surprise anniversary party, & I'm already making up excuses to not go! Maybe it's the pregnancy hormones? I just wanna be with my kids & husband & left alone all the time. I'm also finding myself avoiding friends too! I've canceled plans numerous times with my best friend, I haven't seen her in over 7 months & she lives 15 minutes away. I don't feel depressed or anything like that, it's almost like I feel uncomfortable in those situations for some reason.

i think so. after my uncle was killed 3 years ago our family kind of fell apart. then my grandma died the year after my uncle. i hardly see my grandpa anymore because it just breaks my heart going in their house.

My father passed away suddenly after a heart attack on 11/21/15. I have distanced myself from his side of the family (his parents, sisters and brother etc). They have done nothing but make it all about them. "Oh losing my brother is the most horrible thing I've ever had to go through" and texting my mom, brother and I stupid things like "how hard their days are" and stuff like that. It's easier to distance ourselves from them to not deal with them bringing things up. They had the nerve to ask my mom for my dad's badge (he was a police officer). Sorry, but that's something my mom will keep and then will go to myself or my brother! They've asked for his clothes, golf clubs, anything you can think of. They play the grief card all too often (when people are around). Yet go about with their lives as normal. Meanwhile my mom, who lived with my dad for 35 years and spent every day with him has her whole world turned upside down. They have made it all about them and don't care that my mom lost her husband or that my brother and I lost our father. Or that my three young children lost their papa and ask for him every day..... It's tough. But I think it's normal to distance yourself.

I'm also 12 weeks pregnant and would like to blame the hormones, but that side of the family is just ignorant. And this gives us an excuse to not see them as much!
