No respect from my step dad. None whatsoever. I tell him something not to do with my daughter and he ignores me. Tell him she needs a jacket on to go outside since it's windy and 60 degrees. He says she doesn't and she'll be fine. No, asshole. If I get cold and need a jacket because it's nippy then she definitely does. I tell him she can fuss or do her fake crying because she doesn't need to be held or picked up. I don't want her feeling like she'll get to be held for every little thing or think she doesn't have to be down out of arms at all. I'll get her quiet and start doing something and he'll go and pick her up (even if I JUST get her to sleep for a nap) and everything then pawn her off to me literally 30 seconds later. If I let her cry for a bit rather than running to pick her up because I know which cries are urgent and which are just ones to get attention and he grabs her up and says she's going to have developmental and attachment issues later on because I "neglect her cries"...what the fuck, dude. You have a child but have never been in his life, your mom and siblings are psycho as fuck...and you want to tell me I'm parenting wrong? That what I'm doing is wrong? That you can blatantly ignore what I say? Fuck you. No. That isn't how this goes. If I tell you leave her be or dress her warmer then you listen. You don't ignore me. Simple. I hate when people do that. "Oh, she's warm enough. She'll be fine.", "She's crying. Pick her up.", "She's going to be slow and feel neglected since you won't answer her cries.", etc. etc, etc...urgh.
