I have two weeks before my due date and I'm having a hard time whose last name to give my little girl. Im not married. Me and my SO have definitely gone through a lot of bs in the last year and a half which makes me hesitant to give her his name, we are on good terms and together though. I know he will always be in her life (he has a 8yr old daughter & is always trying to spend time with her), she has his name as well. I feel like my reason is a little selfish because I want my daughter to have my last name so she has something that's apart of me, also me and my mother have the same last name (she didn't give me my biological dads last name). I'm just not sure what to do and I don't wanna upset anyone with whichever I choose.

I'm married and kept my last name cause my two boys have my last name and Im so glad and never regret giving them my last name. They have different dads but they have the same last name. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm married I would name this little girl my last name but since I am I'm going to hyphenate them. My youngest is 6 and thinks his sisters going to have the same last name as him and I think it's easier for them.

it's your child. it is not legally mandatory to have the child's last name as the dad. so keep ur last name and give it to your baby. my had kids and got married and she kept her last name..... never changed it

it's not expensive to change later in life. I kept my maiden name with my oldest son and will be paying the money soon to change his last name now that I am married but he is the one who wants it done and he will be telling a judge why he wants it done. also his last name is going to be that of his father for twelve years and NOT his biological father's name. yes his sperm donor left me homeless when I was pregnant and barely ever pays child support. maybe once a year like $100 which goes strait to college fund.
