I feel I have grown and matured so much since my first child 10 years ago. I was 20 materialistic, and being rebellious were my worse qualities. I had to have the newest new and so did my baby boy, even if he was going to grow out of it a few weeks later. I lived for the brand new J's. But as I turn 30 I realized I wasted a ton of money back then and even though all my bills were paid, my savings would be better off. I don't buy Jordans any more for myself or my children, as a black woman I can't see supporting someone who doesn't care about how his product affects the poor black community and who stated his product was made for the white suburban kids and not the poor black, after a black kid from a low income neighborhood was killed over his shoe. Making better decisions now means giving my children and better life and a better future. It took a while but I got it together now.

I think it's so much of a maturity think because although my son still has the newest of the new I buy what I like not what's in trend.... But when I was younger having kids I would let my bills go unpaid just to have what some think is luxury... Now buy a home is luxurious to me!!

@mrsalston, It's not until my kids are around the kids in school that they realize what brands are and they ask questions. I tell them like it because you like it not because it's what someone else has or what someone else likes.
