When are babies old enough to self soothe?? I'm gonna want to hold & cuddle my son when he cries but I know he's going to need to cry it out at times when nothing's seriously wrong.

I didn't self sooth until around 6 months. The nurturing is what they need when they're not sleepy, hungry, wet, in pain. They don't cry for no reason. They cry because they need their mama. @raegenice

@mommydess, thank you. I usually don't care what people think but I don't want anyone telling me I coddle my son too much knowing he'll need it for a while and I want to enjoy the time when he really needs me.

Dealing with that right now! My BD be telling me I spoil my 3 week old daughter by holding her all the time and picking her up every time she cries. But I'm like holy hell she's only 3 weeks old today ! Smh

I know what you mean. This bothered me too. I was talking about my ex's son. The mom wasn't around, left when he was about 5 months old so I took over that role. And I can tell you, it was very obvious that it wasn't right to let him cry. Not at that age. and even at 6 months, besides bedtime, I didn't let him cry it out. I tried to for weeks until I took a step back and saw fear in his eyes. I didn't have the attachment I know I'll have with my own blood. It wasn't because I wanted to pick him up or that I didn't want to hear him cry. It was totally unbiased. I could see that he genuinely just needed the affection and reassurance. I mean you gotta think, the world is a scary place for an infant/toddler. Just my two cents. I didn't want people telling me what to do. I hear all the time not to coddle them. But there's a difference between 3 year old and a baby ya know?@raegenice

@emmz, see that's crazy. That's when baby especially needs that love and affection. The first few months are crucial and some people regret not loving on their babies enough.

@mommydess, That's genuine care that you have. I love that your instincts kicked in like that. And definitely, I understand an attached 1 year old even 2 but after 3 years old they should be alright without being picked up every time they cry. I totally get that. Thank you so much.
Destiny·
Absolutely. I agree. No problem girl. You're gonna do great. @raegenice
