My daughter has a speech impediment, this causes her to need extra help in school, I requested her to be put on an IEP in kindergarten, she just so happened to be in the class that was assigned the IEP teacher, they refused to do an evaluation on her, saying we will give her the benefits of the IEP without her actually on one. They did exactly that, she then goes into first grade, her K teacher saying "she pulled some strings!" Meaning she got Chloe in the IEP assisted class, the teacher in 1st grade also happened to be the IEP teacher that was assigned to her K class! Now, here we are without any complaints all year, suddenly they inform us they wanna retain her! Why? Not bc of her work, but bc she needs assistance and well no more strings can be pulled, they wanna fail her bc they don't think she is capable of being independent!!!! They taught my daughter in this environment! They done this to her & bc of that they wanna retain her! Why not officially put her on an IEP? Well guess what she's going on an IEP, & in the second grade! The teachers are at fault here for not doing their job right! I'm also setting up and appt with the principle to let her know this, then I'll be talking to the board of education.
I think it's time my children go to a different school district who does their jobs properly, my kids deserve the best education!
Anyone else have a similar situation?

What??? That's absolutely insane. I work with kids with all different kinds of special needs, and that's just so frustrating for me to hear because I know they have all different needs. My mom is the director of Special Ed with a doctorate, I can ask her if she has any ideas on how you can push for the IEP if you'd like?

Yes it is crazy! All of my kids have speech problems, so they also see outside therapists, I just got my son on an IEP last month, I waited 4 months to get him evaluated! They lied to me about informing their IEP persons. & now this with my daughter. Their outside therapists printed off a ton of extra info for me. I'll be delivering a written letter requesting an IEP tomorrow to the IEP teacher. I will also inform them of above situation. But Thank you for the offer! @theemmariefactor

uh, no. They have 30 days to start an IEP evaluation, it takes 58 days to complete. It is against federal regulations for them to deny an evaluation once a parent has requested one. They can not fail her unless you sign the form allowing it. You can fight the retention, you can sue for the evaluation not being done. You can file a complaint with the PSB I believe public school board, not the board of your school the office that enforces federal guidelines. and disciplinary actions for serious teacher/ school offences
