Ladies, what are you opinions on the Epidural mainly(labor meds) causing Autism in children? I was…

I'm not getting the epi or meds just to be safe, never heard about what you mentioned.

Hey girl. I'm a Pre Med major and it's crazy because we're currently talking about things like this in class. I don't think that the epidural itself is what causes the problems but a combination of the epidural and the other medicines they use like for inductions and things cause a TON of stress on the baby. Have you watched the Business of Being of Born on Netflix? They also explain somethings, but basically yes, the labor meds have been the cause for many problems and a lot of the times if you never would got the meds, you wouldn't have had any complications.

@dang_dridri, lol I just have to say, I love when you comment because your so nice and easy to talk to and make a lot of sense compared to some of the other women. any who, that's crazy and I didn't think about that before, only because so many woman get meds during labor. I myself haven't had the epidural, only the iv med which didn't work lol but I don't to get anything now just to be safe. I remember I asked in HS my biology teacher about vaccines causing autism and she said no that what happens is, the gene is already in the body, and is off but the vaccine can activate the gene to turn on(making the child have autism). I don't know if that makes sense, or if I even explained it right.

This is a bunch of BS! The CDC wants to blame it on everything other than the genetic malformation it is.... I have had all 7 of my children with an epidural, and they all test above age qualifications. NONE OF THEM HAVE AUTISM! Shit like this pisses me off...... Sorry rant over

@snowbaby313, what is CDC? and it isn't going to happen to every child either. but I don't know.

I did genetic research while in the Military and know alot more than what the CDC has released to the public and all my information is based on the research that has been done!

@kelseys, thanks girl! I try to be nice, I feel like we all have enough BS going on. But yes that's right as well. Science is so confusing itself, it's hard to understand unless you're studying it. But yes, there's been a lot of problems with the epidural, whether it's on mommy or baby and they are currently trying to find a different method because of that. Not saying it would 100% give them autism or that something would happen but there is a risk. Everything has a risk, just some more than others.

@dang_dridri, science is so hard lol I took the same class 3times in hs. lol but I never pay attention either. I didn't know they are trying to come up with another way but your right even if they do there will always be a risk.

I know, people, companies, or whatever they are, government, isn't always telling us everything. but what I meant to say because I didn't know how to say it, but the other user did, is that there is always a risk involved, not that it will happen but a tiny chance that it could. how do you do genetic research? it just sounds so interesting.

There are risks to everything, yes! But for them to say 1 in every 4 births with epidurals results in autism is false information to get everyone all stressed out.... 99.4% of all autism cases are the result of a genetic malformation that has been passed on from not one, but both parents!

@snowbaby313, I didn't see anywhere in the post where it states or I said that 1 out of 4 results in autism? I believe I just said that epidural and other labor medication have been proven to cause problems.

@dang_dridri, it wasn't mentioned here. I googled it and on one of the sites it stated that 1 in every 4 results in autism. So sorry if I confused anyone. That was never my intention!

@dang_dridri, I think she got that from somewhere else. @snowbaby313 yes that part about the gene I know, I had asked my biology teacher a few years ago about it.

@kelseys, just to give you a little taste of how our government works, I was in the Military from 1999-2002, during which a cure for HIV/AIDS was discovered...... it was not released to the public until this year...... kinda messed up huh?

@snowbaby313, oh I know about that. and for cancer too, which now some doctors are trying different methods for different cancers, and work but the government won't let the cure out because then drug companies lose out on on money. they have cures for a lot of things, but I also believe that they are the ones cause all these sicknesses and diseases

Pharmaceutical company get more money for treating an illness long term, than they do for curing it.... they use it to their advantage!

I feel like it's a possibility? like maybe it's already in your genetics and the mix of the drugs during labor somewhat bring it out? But then again maybe not.. But it's still a possibility... I try not to over think things like this lol

@littlemissrainesmommy, that's how my teacher had explained it to me, it has to be in your gene and the meds bring it out but it isn't always 100% going to happen.

@snowbaby313, yes. my brother is really into anti government stuff and is always telling me a bunch of crazy stuff.
