This is my third but first I'm exclusively doing all three.

@mommabear538 As far as cloth diapers go I bought tidy tots diapering system. I have 18 diaper covers, 24 diaper inserts, and 18 diaper boosters for night time diapering. Since I have such a big stash, I can get away with washing once a week! I wash with natural detergent with hot water and line dry or dry on low heat.

@mommabear538 I try to pump my opposite breast while nursing or I'll pump while she's sleeping. I don't have much stashed in the freezer as I'm not on a consistent pumping schedule as I'm currently a stay at home mom. I will be going back to work soon so I'm planning on pumping more soon.

I have 15 cloth, mostly pockets or AIO but I bought 2 "old school" diapers last night with covers for maybe 10 bucks for both. Local store had a sale.

I prewash, regular wash, with all free & clear and use white distilled vinegar once a week for stink removal on hot water. Hang dry or low heat dry.

@suddymaya, I'm also going to be making my own soon. AIO, Pockets & Swimmies for my 2 yr old & soon to be newborn

@mommabear538 oh I didn't think to use the vinegar....how much do u add ?

1/2 cup during the first rinse cycle. like fabric softener, same concept.

@laylaopal, How big is your stash? What is your laundry routine? Do you pump at all? I'm trying to figure out the best process for us by asking others what they do. :)

We have 51 diapers 60+ inserts and 50 fleece liners (buy a cheap fleece Walmart blanket cut insert size) helps avoid major poop stains and cleaning we wash every 3 or 4 days depending on how much stuffing I wanna do after its done haha we do a cold pre wash with 1/2gain then a hot main wash with full cup gain and 1/4 borax tumble dry on low but since it's getting warmer I might hang dry we exclusively breast feed so I don't pump I used to at first but my daughter doesn't take a bottle

I didn't know borax was safe for cloth. @laylaopal I use vinegar

It is safe I don't use it for every wash usually at least once a month we used vinegar at first but they still got barnyard stink

yes very, and I don't use on every wash either, I use it once a week for strong stinks during the rinse cycle like if you use fabric softener.

I do all three! I use babee greens diapers they're hemp+organic cotton they're snaps one size fitted but I like to use an organic prefold with a wool cover. I have a total of 19 w/inserts and 6 doublers, 1 sm wool cover as well as 6 prefolds from rebourne. I also have 6 aio diapers that are polyester but I only use those as a last resort. I noticed when washing, the natural fibers rinse much easier than the synthetic ones. I try to wash everyday if not 2-3 days anymore and I'm behind. I always hot rinse the diapers in my bathroom sink before putting to the wash, babee greens came with its own powder detergent so I use 1tbs of that and lil greensheild organic liquid detergent. I wash cold or warm on gentle (the portable washer I have can't handle high temp) I always do an extra rinse and spin then line dry. I don't use vinegar on the diapers bc it will break away at the fibers, I'll use it for her clothes but not every wash. we plan to order more wool covers in the next size since she will grow out the small soon enough, and prolly 6 more prefolds, inserts, and doublers.

if you're starting out with a newborn I'd say going with prefolds and at least 2 wool covers is best (I wish we had the extra cover to start with) my baby will go through 7-14 diaper changes a day. and I recommend going with natural fibers, especially for sensitive skin, as I said it's easier to rinse and with each wash absorbancy increases.

I will baby wear! and I want to ebf firstvfour weeks then pump and bottlefeed until a year old. :)
