For those of you with babies.. Did you let your baby cry it out when you put them in bed? If so what age? Little man is 3 weeks now and at times I'll put him to bed and he's fed, nappy changed, burped and looks tired. Should I let him cry it out a bit? I don't want him to get in the habit of being picked up and rocked to sleep in my arms each time, I would much rather he get himself off to sleep in bed. Thoughts?

My little one is 3 weeks tomorrow. He's got terrible wind at the moment so as soon as he cries I pick him up. Before the wind he would get abit unsettled in his bassinet but if I put him in bed with hubby and I he wouldn't stir. He's bassinet was to hard, put a big thick blanket down which helped. @carlyanaya but I think three weeks it abit young for self settling, but that's just my opinion

@anthea22, I did the same thing in our bassinet too to make it more comfortable. Yeah I think you're right. I wouldn't be able to handle letting him cry longer than a minute anyway. I don't know if it's the right thing to do or not once he's a little older...I guess I'll see if he self settles himself in the weeks to come. I had 3-4 days of colic and I was at my wits end. I ended up getting some infants friend which seems to have helped a ton! I'm also keeping my diet super basic but I also thought it could be that 3 week growth spurt and they feel uncomfortable. I hope it gets better for you

I can't handle hearing him cry, don't think ill be good at self settling. It's heart breaking know there's something wrong but you don't know what it is or how to fix it. @carlyanaya

@anthea22, it is. It's horrible. Does your bub like massage? After I give mine a bath I lie him on his tummy over my arm and give him a long back massage. That helped to make him feel better and settle

Hates the bath. Loves a shower with dad though. Doest like a massage either. Fussy boy, takes after his dad! Lol @carlyanaya

@anthea22, oh that's so funny! My hubby hates massages too but little man must take after me coz he loves it. So funny he loves the shower! That's cute

3 weeks is way to early to start self soothing. and you cant spoil a baby ;) if hes still crying he probably still has more wind or just needs the secure feeling of cuddles .i always try and get at least 3 burps, sometimes it can take up to 1/2 hour of burping to get the last little burp out and then you sooth until you hear them 'sigh' which is usualy a safe time to put them down and they normally stay asleep. i have found this the easiest way with all of my children and my my 4 younger siblings :). hope this helps you

@tori92 yeah thanks for that. Breaks my heart to hear him cry anyway but wondering when a good age would be to try to get him to self soothe. I suppose at 3 months the colic should settle down too

@tori92, oh no, that's so hard. :( I've made the decision that dinner has to be prepared in the morning or during the day. it's too hard at night and I don't even have other kids. Maybe that could work for you?

yeh i have a slow cooker i should be using it
Carly·

Yep that's my plan. Make a massive batch and try to freeze a portion so you have a healthy meal to grab.

thats far too early to do self settling imo!
try baby wearing, great for settling. keeps you hands free and easy to transfer baby to bed asleep.
