Yea nut the epidural was awesome! I had so much back labor I couldn't walk. They put my iv in while I was on all fours and curled up in a ball. The epidural didn't numb everything. I felt quite a bit but it did slow labor and make it harder to push.
To be honest it's a lot of pressure you feel with the epidural. I ended up feeling a little bit of my back labor but it was nothing like without the epidural. I did feel some of the stretching and tearing when he was actually being delivered but it was mild. I had to have a lot of stitches done afterwards and I didn't feel any of it.
Oh and I was stressed about the actual epidural. I felt one pinch where they numbed me and then I felt some pressure with the actual epidural. It was super easy and started working really fast. I think the worst part of the epidural was once I was stable on my feet they took the catheter out and it sucked. You will do fine!
Definitely! Even the contractions. All you feel is some abdominal tightness. I took a couple naps with the epidural before delivery. Delivery is still tiring too. You are still pushing and it does take work. If anything I think I was more frustrated because it was about finding a good position that would allow him to deliver. I tried on my back w my legs in different places and reclined a little. I tried on both sides and I even talked the nurse into letting me squat. It took the nurse, my SO and Mom to help me get there but it was a try. The last position that worked was me on my back with a squat bar above the bed w a sheet tied to it that I could pull. The nurse also had to play with how reclined I was because he was so deep in my back. Once I was in the spot needed though he was born! It could be easier for you too. My nurses said it usually takes longer with the first child and the epitomizes delivery take longer too.
