I had my daughter 10 days ago. I am ebf but wondering when to pump. I haven't quite mastered timing…

Pump after you breast feed. Feed her every 2-3 hours. Her urine/bowel movements and weight gain is indication of if she's getting enough. And I've never heard of trying to keep the baby awake while eating🤔 I'm a FTM and my little man isn't here yet but this is a bit of what I've learned and know from babysitting and the Internet lol

And do you pump because you're in over supply or are trying to up your supply?

unless there is a reason to pump you don't need to, at least for the first 4 weeks is what I was told, then I would nurse, and halfway between feeds pump (I was going to be going out of town so I needed to have a stash)... if your baby is gaining weight (you can usually take them to a lactation consultant and they will periodically weigh foe you, and is having enough wet/dirty diapers a day they are getting enough....

@raegenice, I just know some people pump right away so I wasn't sure. I have 3 boys but I never got the chance to breastfeed them because of compilations so I am determined to breastfeed my daughter. just trying to figure out the rights and wrongs.

my daughter sleeps thru her bedtime feed and her middle of the night feed (she's 4 months now) I don't think it matters they still know what to do

@marie04, I heard that you should ebf for the first month at least and then pump if you need to

@raegenice, I was told not to pump directly after nursing as you will only get hindmilk, and you want a mix of both foremilk and hindmilk... of course if baby doesn't empty you enough then yes immediately pump

@sarahdrew, thank you. i guess I am just worrying too much. I just don't want to give up or get discouraged or do something wrong.

contact a lactation consultant in your area, they are lifesavers... also you can ask on here as you have, we try to help as much as we can @marie04

@sarahdrew, I've heard that also. I still have learning to do as I'm a first time mom. There's a lot of back and forth on what's best and what's not. I do know that baby needs that hind milk though, definitely right about that.

also remember it takes about 8 weeks for your supply to regulate

always remember, not all Dr's know a lot about breastfeeding, so do tho... I love this app too @marie04

@sarahdrew, her doctor is also a consultant which is half the reason why I chose her ☺ @raegenice I will be sure to update you on what I find out.
