Well considering YOURE the one that just pushed a baby out and was pregnant for 10 months and in labor. I say moms get priority to hold the baby first you did all the work

They always do skin to skin with mom first. Its more familiar to the baby and less shocking. So from a scientific stand point what's best for the baby is to touch the mom first since they've been smelling and hearing you their whole existence so far. lol

Personally I feel mom should always hold the baby first. We did the hard work and we deserve to have baby skin to skin--not to mention all of the benefits of having baby skin to skin with mom immediately after birth. Also--baby is still attached to you via the umbilical cord so it wouldn't even be possible to have him take baby right away. I would say once baby is out, do skin to skin, and then once the cord is cut and baby's cleaned up dad can be next lol. That's my opinion ;) OR see if your ob is okay with dad wanting to catch baby. He could grab baby once he/she comes out and then put babe directly on you.

We did skin to skin with me first for an hour because it's good for baby and milk supply. Baby will know your scent and feel safe. Then my husband did skin to skin for an hour.

mom's usually get to hold the baby first so the baby can do skin to skin and breastfeed.
