Some people need them. For us, not even nipple shields worked to get him to latch. But the hospital supplied us with one to try it out so I didn't need to bring my own. Can't hurt to be prepared though.

they didn't work for me either :/ the hospital gave me nipple shields and breast shells, which are the weirdest things in the world, to draw the nipple out...still didn't work lol. I ending up pumping. hope you're successful in breastfeeding and that you won't them :)

make sure to ask for a lactation consultant to come see you too if they don't do it automatically
