Just saw someone comment that babies with jaundice just need to be put in the sun for short periods of time. No honey. I really hope no one just decides to put their baby in the sun instead of having them treated at a hospital for jaundice. 😑 Jaundice isn't just your baby being born yellow, it's liver dysfunction. Let the doctor do their job and please do not take it upon yourself because "it's basically the same thing".
Edit: I understand not every jaundice case is the same. All I'm saying is to talk to your DOCTOR about treatment options, not someone on the internet who may have had a different scenario than yours. On the flip side of that, don't tell someone that their doctor is wrong for their recommendation just because it's not what worked for you.

omg what the heck??? my brother had jaundice when he was born. My mom told me it is no joke and yes i hope no one is putting their baby in the sun

how do people come up with this crap? my nephew had jaundice and he had to go to treatment for 2 weeks straight and on the weekends they sent us home with something so we could keep him at home.

My daughter had jaundice when she was born and after we were released from the hospital the Dr told us to put her in the sunlight for 10 min 2 times a day! For some that don't have it on a severe level this actually works as your liver needs vitamin D to make liver enzymes to get rid of the jaundice!!!!!

My son had it when he was born and the Doctor told me "put him in the sun". So not all cases are that serious.

@reba0719, @snowbaby313 true not all cases are as severe, but your babies were still seen by doctors who THEN recommended sunlight. Not just some random on the internet who has no idea what the case may be.

@reba0719, obviously. But the doctor checks for specific things to see if the baby needs further treatment for their jaundice. This person was saying that the other mama should have just put her baby in the sunlight instead because "doctors do too much"

it's not ALWAYS because of a liver dysfunction, sometimes it means baby has more Bilirubin, wich is a yellow substance that the body creates when it replaces old red blood cells, yes the liver helps flush it out in baby's poo, but the liver is working to flush out more of it than the body needs. which causes the skin to turn yellow. but in other cases, yes it does mean liver failure or worse. I wouldn't judge what the girl said if you don't know the full story.

@nichole_lynn, I'm well aware thank you. I'm not judging sunlight as a treatment. The part I'm upset about was her telling another person to go AGAINST her doctors recommendation for the treatment.

As a mommy who's had two babies with jaundice I agree with @nichole_lynn Its not always severe liver dysfunction. My babies were just fine after bathing in the sun a few times a day for a few days. :)

I do know my son was jaundice and they told me to put his bassinet in front of the window where the sun light came in ( undressed) it worked

both my girls were jaundice when they were born, but they weren't severe so I had them in the sun and it was gone in a few days. however, that was doctors recommendation, if it were more serious I would''ve definitely got treatment and not just put them in the sun. my little brother had a severe case when he was born and he had to be wrapped up in that light blanket.
