It is a good idea but I would wait for the child to be at least 2 because having a puppy is no joke Lol. Plus at 2 or 3 your baby will be able to help feed them and all of that Lol.

@sexxymama83, I was thinking about that as well. Newborn baby...sleepless nights, feeding schedule, diapers, appointments, etc and then turning around to a few weeks old puppy...potty training, chew toys, vet appointments, feeding schedule. 😱😱😱 The baby will be enough lol

Yep it's like having two kids at once Lol. But the dog never grows up. They will remain at like a 4 year old stage forever lol

We had rescued a kitten that was stuck in someone's car a few months before my daughter was born. He has been awesome with her. And I'm working on talking George into getting a puppy this time around. I personally think every child needs a pet to grow up with. but beware bc they are just like having another baby.

Personally, I wouldn't. Baby won't know what the pet is for a while still. Plus you'll have to split your attention between baby and puppy/kitty. They cause a lot of mayhem lol. But ultimately, it's up to you (: I think a puppy would be more rambunctious than a kitten though. (: good luck with your decision!
