Wait until the baby opens his mouth wide then hold your boob as if it was a sandwich. Then put it in the baby's mouth. It should help with getting baby latched further onto the Areola

Sounds like baby isn't latching correctly, also one thing I found that helped with the soreness was lanolin cream. Not only does it help with that but also the dryness and cracking!

that usually means the latch is incorrect.
