Your GP should be able to confirm when you first contacted them about being pregnant. Then you are legally covered x

I'm sat at work at the moment crying because of what I've been told. I'm worried that when I'm off with baby we will be relying on OH pay and I earn more than him as it is and we struggle slightly as it is. I honesty don't know what to do @sophia114 @lou

@briony1994, I didn't know how discriminative the workplace can be until I got pregnant. My workplace cut my hours and I know its so they don't have to pay me as much maternity pay. I wouldn't worry too much just yet I really think you will be legally covered x

I didn't think it made any difference if you knew you was pregnant or not. You're legally entitled to statutory maternity pay or maternity allowance (which is the same amount) regardless of if you knew you were pregnant when you took the job or not. If he hadn't or employed you because you was pregnant then he would be breaking the law.

my manager once told me that you don't have to declare your pregnancy when you start a job and even if you did they would be breaking the law not to employ you. (he had a sitUtuon like this before and was just telling me the story)

It's just frustrating how my boss thinks like that and makes it worse that I work with all blokes so none of them fully understand how scared I am in the first place about how I'm going to cope. My boss isn't even in for me to speak to about it which makes it 10x worse! my ou @tuftyturtle xx

everybody who works full time worries about how they will cope with maternity pay. I lost about £1000 a month but amazingly you kind of just adjust! I didn't go back to work full time either because the price of childcare just doenst make it worth it. You kind of just re prioritise even though you didn't think you could haha. I wouldn't let it stress you out. There's nothing he can do. He doesn't even pay statutory maternity pay, it's government funded. and if for some contractual reason you don't get mat pay. then you get maternity allowance. you just have to apply yourself rather than your employer do it! he sounds like a dick but don't let someone else's idiocy affect your life when it doesn't need to

It doesn't matter how long you've been there, how many hours you work etc or if you knew you were pregnant before you started they legally CAN NOT sack your or make you redundant you are entitled to mat oay regardless so don't stress Hun, it doesn't come out. Of their back pocket anyway they are given your mat allowance by the government if they try to bully you out or dismiss you unfairly because your pregnant your have so many rights it's unbelievable xx

It's illegal for them to sack or discriminate against you. Your boss sounds like an absolute tool! But my boss is being awkward too, it's shocking but you don't realise until your pregnant how people discriminate against against you. It's so frustrating xx

It's stupid I've found my contracts that I was meant to have when I started, obviously wasn't meant to find them but I was tidying up. One says 3 months probation which I found last week and this morning there's a new one saying 6 months probation. So why has it suddenly changed?? I've been here 3 months tomorrow so surely my boss should of discussed it with me...I just feel like Cus I'm the only woman here and it's my first baby I don't know what I'm doing. I want to work because I want to be a good role model but if I'm getting this much stress then I'm feeling I may aswell leave. They can't change your contract without your permission, do you have a HR? If you don't contact citizens advice ASAP so they can run through your contract etc you don't want to have one up on you and men in work places are disgusting! X

It's so frustrating @holliesinead and because they don't understand it all either it makes it worse and if I cry infront of them they don't know what to do and when I'm snappy they don't know I don't mean it...Ergh just one of those days :( xx
