Mother's of toddlers:
Do you think you could leave your 2 or 3 year old for an extended amount of time? Less than a year, we will say, and you get to see them in between at certain times, but you can't see them for 10 weeks to start off and then about 4-6 months (you get SOME visitation during this time frame only).
I ask because I was going to enlist in the Army back in September and then found out I was pregnant. I plan on finishing my degree now and in about two years, I want to try to enlist again. I'm almost 6 months pregnant. Two years from now, I will have a toddler to leave with my husband. What do you think?
Also, try to be open minded and no bashing. There are other women out there like me. Some are in the military and serve their country for you and have to put mommy responsibilities in second place.
Thanks!

@nicholefrank, You can do it if you want, girl. You're in the same boat as me basically. My husband may possibly be getting out after these next two years.
@mamabear1416 Other than leaving your child, what is a determining factor that would keep you from doing something like this? (In the hypothetical situation that enlisting was your goal at one point)

I think you should wait till after you have your baby to make up your mind because leaving my son just to go to work is a huge struggle and he's 4 months old

I wanted to enlist but now I have a 6 month old and another on the way. if its what you really want go for it.

@mrs.snelling, I have about two years to make my mind up. I have college to finish first. My education is more important than enlisting because it provides stability for my family. I'm just collecting opinions from mother's as of right now and asking them to put themselves in this situation to try to see how they would feel. No decisions have been made yet.

@melina.a.613, I personally couldn't do it, you also have to think about your child I grew up with my mom always working and no dad so I was very lonely. I have depression and anxiety babies need their mommies I'm not bashing either I know you just want to take care of your family but it's important to be there

@melina.a.613, I just never had the desire to inlist and thy would not take me if I did anyway as I have a bad back knee arm and I already suffer from p.t.s.d... but I do my best to support our troops and I have family that is and was in the military

I've always wanted to do it, I'd probably go reserves though so my family wouldn't have to move again, and my son would have Me when needed. the hard part would be basic, but doing what I'd love to do is also important. @melina.a.613

Of course, @mrs.snelling a baby needs it's mama. That's something I have to consider as well. I didn't have a dad either and my mom joined the Navy at 27 and picked one of the hardest jobs a woman can do and ended up leaving me for 3 years, basically. I was raised by my grandma. My husband would be there, though, so that plays a part in my decision as well. Plus, I would only be a medic, so my training wouldn't be as extensive. I'm weighing all things here. I have time to re consider, but I don't want to give up on my dreams and have my kid think it's because of them one day.

@melina.a.613, I'm not a mother, but I will say that I Would be grateful if you served our country. My youngest brother is over there now. It would probably be very hard, though. Knowing how I would feel if I had a baby and had to leave it

@mamabear1416, Well thank you for being supportive. My husband is in the Army and is active duty and he has told me the support really means a lot to them.

@nicholefrank, If I do this, I'm going active duty (just a personal preference) but if you enlist and go Reserves, good for you girl. You'll still do what you love. What MOS would you choose?
@mrsfreckles85 Truly, thank you for your support. It means a lot. Thank your brother for me as well. Also, if you are trying to be mommy soon, I'm sending baby dust your way :) Good luck.
@mazevedo1127 Thank you so much! Having other strong women in my corner means a lot. I still have a ways to go before this all occurs, but I'm determined! Thanks again :)

@melina.a.613, know problem for the support! I'm sending lots your way. I know it has to be a difficult decision to make for your family. I will definitely tell my little bro of your thanks and support, as well. I'm proud of him. I wish he were home, but that's not possible just yet. And yes..trying to have a little one myself! Hoping this month is the winning month!! ❤️🙏🏻

I'd probably be a medic, I want to be a nurse, if I didn't do the Army I would go to school for nursing either way and I didn't want active because we just moved from Bragg to Arizona, and I don't want to pick up and pack again. @melina.a.613

I am in the air national guard and since I had my kids it has gotten a lot harder. I have had to be gone for 3 weeks once and found it very difficult. I mean I love the military and that is why I have been in 12 years. One thing is I recommend looking at the guard because if you go active they pretty much run your life. being in the guard you get time away from all that and as amother I am glad I didn't go active. But you know what is best for you and your family. Wishing you all the best in your decision. If you have any questions let me know :)
