QUESTION! I'm still under my parents insurance (since I'm young and I can be until I'm 26) and my boyfriend doesn't have health insurance. My mom is covered under my stepdad through marriage and I am covered under my dad as his dependent. Well my dads insurance only covers his dependent's dependent (his child's kid) for only up to 30 days. But according to my doctor my baby needs insurance when I go into labor and it should already be the permanent one. In other words, what kind of baby insurance do you recommend? Preferably not too expensive. I live in Tennessee and I know about Tenncare but I'm trying to figure out how to do it only for my baby and keep myself under my dads insurance.

idk how it works for TN but here in TX. I applied for medicaid and they automatically give it to u since ur pregnant (which will help cover whatever ur dads ins won't ) and when baby is born he is covered for a whole year after with Medicaid

you can get Medicaid. I'm on my parents insurance and Medicaid. The baby should automatically be covered under Medicaid when it's born.

Not everyone in tx can automatically get Medicaid just bc your preg. I have blue cross blue shield on my husbands plan as will the baby when it's born and we have to meet the 1,700 deductible to pay out of pocket before our 90/10 kicks in and Medicaid will not even think about covering u if you have a private plan already at least that's what my ob told me bc I asked if there was any way to get the 1,700 covered so we will end up paying 2,200 for the year because that's the cap amount.

You can't do it that way. with MOST insurances, once you have a baby get married or turn 26 you get kicked off your parents insurance. I also live in tn. but you have 30 days to get baby signed up for tenncare after its born. that's what they told me. but chances are you'll be kicked off your dad's insurance and you'll pretty much have to get tenncare, which isnt the best insurance at all, but it keeps you from paying that stupid fine come next tax season
