Gender roles don't exist to children until we force them on them. A child isn't born thinking pink is a "girl color" Or that baby dolls are "girl toys." Your husband has been taught that by society.
My son is the only baby but he always wants to put on my make up and walk in my wedges. his daddy gets mad but I don't mind. he is just exploring and he loves the sound of the clacking.
My daughter plays 28th "boy" toys such as cars and dinosaurs and my nephews played/play with "girl" toys such as a doll and the youngest even used to walk around in heels and the boys are both all boy playing in the mud and playing with snails. So my point is let him of we wants to. There's nothing wrong with kids playing with any kind of toy as long as they are safe, happy, and healthy :)
