Tonight my mom and I were talking, and she told me that before she had me, when she was 19 years old, she had a miscarriage. She was 22 weeks along, and had no idea she was pregnant. Keep in mind, this was 1986. She told me that she woke up and knew something was wrong. She went straight to the doctor where they confirmed she had been, indeed, pregnant. Hours later they did a D&C. She said that the doctor literally handed her this teeny tiny baby and said, "would have been a boy." That was all he said. She said she cried , and the nurse said something along the lines of, "You're 19. Aren't you happy? This would have ruined your life. I don't see a ring on your finger..".
I'm 26, almost 27, years old, and I never knew this. My mom and I are not close, but, my heart broke a little for her. I had no idea. How can a doctor and a nurse be so hateful, and cold hearted? Why did they feel the need to be so judgmental? She now has three daughters, myself the oldest, but it makes me wonder what life would have been like with an older brother. She said she would have named him Brandon. Secretly, if I ever have a boy (or adopt a boy - fingers crossed-!) I will name him Brandon for her.

Holy 💩💩💩💩💩💩. That's insane. I don't understand how doctors could be so rude. I was talking to my first born's half brothers mom and she was saying that while she was in nursing school she had to be in the OB/labor and delivery department and a baby born waaaayyyyy early was breathing so she tried helping it and the doctor turned off life support, even though baby was breathing, and basically said there was nothing they could do. I thought people in the medical field chose to do it to help people, not be screwed up like that. It's crazy that all that happened to your mom though. I can't imagine.

Almost same situation happened to me but it would have been my second child. I would have smacked that nurse right in the face. She has no right to judge like that. Poor girl :( @jennatess
