Early morning question for you ladies: My mom and sister are both planning on being here for the birth of our son and then my mother in law 2 weeks after, but they all also have already made their own plans to stay for 1-2 weeks to help with the baby without really even asking me. My husband says we should accept the help because it's going to be really hard, but at the same time I feel like my husband, the baby, and I need to get on our own schedule to figure things out before they just jump in and want to take over.. Is that wrong? I always hear mommas say they regret not taking the help that was offered or overwhelmed themselves by trying to do it all on their own and not letting anyone help. Any thoughts?

is your husband taking a maternity leave as well? if he is I would tell your family to wait until he goes back to work to come and help. because yes the help is always nice. but to get into your own groove and figure out your baby on your own is always nice to.

There won't be a schedule formed in 2 weeks, trust me, lol Let them come BUT be FIRM. I always advise new moms to accept help and revel in the postpartum period if given a chance. This is a big moment for you and hubby, but also for the grandparents and aunts and uncles. While they change diapers and get baby for late night feedings YOU can rest, bond with baby, and have a little time to reflect. You won't control every aspect, but in life when do we ever?

@mdomke22, I guess it's a little more complicated, because he is in the Navy and were in the middle of changing commands around the due date. So we aren't 100% sure what that schedule will look like yet unfortunately 👎🏻

@tayek, Thank you that's all so helpful and very true, and I am worried about postpartum depression, as I used to have really bad depression about three years ago. I didn't think about that, and having them here will help.

I would honestly take the help from your mom and sister. you're going to need the extra rest and help to recover from labor and delivery.

Lol I'm not saying to have a schedule down in two weeks.... all I was saying is that it gives you time to get to know your baby without others trying to tell you what to do. I didn't have a schedule until at least 2 months to be honest. but that makes it way more difficult not knowing :( I wild Def take the help if he's not going to be around.. the first two weeks you just feel like a hot emotional mess. you feel like you're not doing anything right. it is Def nice to have help in the evenings and nighttime.

@deefrasee, you'll have just done the hardest physical job a woman can do, mama! Yes, allow them to come pamper you AND baby a bit. They can help watch for the red flags and make sure you get help if needed. Having a baby is amazing but the hormonal shifts are so sudden and it can really thrown mommy off her loop. I DEFINITELY advise you to let them help, because that's another way you'll be taking care of yourself so you can take care of your precious baby. 💖 If you're more comfortable, allow shorter visits for some BUT keep your mom or MIL close by for a longer clip. That way there's no hurt feelings, but still a ton of extra support for you.

@tayek, Thank you! I definitely don't want to seclude them, and I am sure the help will be very needed. It's just so hard not knowing what to expect when it's your first time it freaks me out haha I really appreciate your advise though. So thank you ☺️

I would take the help but sometimes family can tend to take baby away from you and that's not good. So if it gets to that point tell them

I would just let them hell when needed.. you will need help and sleep.. lol.. they can do lots that you will be too tired or sore in the beginning like cooking, cleaning, errands, or grocery shopping.. @deefrasee

You should take the help because you things that would normally be able to if you were by yourself with husband like shower and sleep. You can still do the schedule you want with your baby. Just let everyone know what you want.

you should get a feel for it the first few days then decide what you want. ive heard its overwhelming in the beginning. but a few weeks later wanted help. not out the gate
