So, I think I shot myself on the foot. I found out my ex husband reported to the IRS that he paid me 2000 in alimony the year we split. He never did, in fact he stole a lot more than that from me due to a Crack and gambling addiction that lead to our seperation. I filed my taxes Friday and got the text that federal and state both accepted them....but when I check online, apparently that means they received them, but still need to process them. Two other people said theirs has been accepted as per the online tool that is telling me it's not accepted. Will this cause a hold up in my return? I wanted to use that money to make up for whatever we don't get in our baby showers and since we're having two, I doubt there's really anything we'd NEED, but I just don't want to find out I screwed myself over.

he can report it all he wants but doesn't there need to be documentation? you may just need to contest it or file a complaint so its on him.

@nerdmamatn, this was like 2 Years ago or so, he already got the tax break or whatever the incentive to lie was. I reported it a month ago to the IRS. And yes, at this point he would have to prove that he gave me the alimony or there was a court order or agreement or etc.
