I'm watching this show and the girl is upset because get parents can't afford to send her to a ivy league college. my question is this. is it the parents responsibility to pay for their kids' school? I paid for my own school, as did my brothers and my sister. so I feel like I'll have my kids save up and pay their way through college. but I don't know what the traditional way to send kids to college is. opinions?

Me an my husband are putting our family allowance checks into a separate account so when she goes to college we will have some money saved up for her.

my parents said they would pay for 1 degree. and they did, I paid for my other degrees, certifications and other education.

no problem, I'm probably gonna tell my boys the same. that I'll pay for 1 degree but if they want more or to further their education that's on them. but then again I'm torn I may still try and help because learning is important, and I love school. So I may help them but I also want them to learn to work for things, that not everything is gonna be handed to them... if that makes sense lol

@twinmamma2015, I'd like to help my kids with it if they need it. education is important. I'm just a little torn because I had to pay for everything from the time I was 12. but I was earning money from raising and selling calves and driving tractor and then I got a waitressing job in high school and saved up for ur. and it was really awesome to feel independent that way and to be on my own but it is a lot to put on a kid to make them pay their own way. I got a few years to decide what to do. It just got me thinking about it tonight

I feel the same way,.they'll appreciate it more if they have to work for it instead of it just being handed to them, what I'll do is probably put money aside every month early and let it collect interest and then use that to help them with college if they need it. But I'll probably also have them save some when they start working so they can help, not with all of it but some.... I dunno lol. now you got me thinking haha!!!!

I mean my parents paid for my college education out of pocket but only because we were able to do that financially . I plan to do the same with my kids if college is something that they want to pursue .
