I took a pre vet class at Tolles Tech and it was a two year class with college credit. One phrase of advice I would say is don't go into vet tech if you can't handle blood, stool, urine, puke, infectious puss, etc. Most vet techs are in the lab running stool samples, checking blood samples, and urine samples. Also you with some of the restraint processes you cannot be scared to man handle an animal. I want to go for vet tech because of my two year class I took. A lot of people though go into it and don't expect what it truly is. It takes a love and passion for animals but you also have to be sincere in your work and do what's best for the animal you are taking care of. Vet tech was hard on a lot of students in my class because in depth you see a lot of animals who will not get better and you may have to put down or an animal who is in a lot of pain. While learning pet CPR we saw pictures of dog's with protruding objects to the eye, various wounds, etc. I was raised with a beef cattle family and I guess I'm used to industry and doing what's best for the animal. As vet techs and veterinarians you really shouldn't attach yourself to the pet. Its important to remember you are there for the HEALTH of the animal. This is what my vvet tech teacher told us a lot and I hope this helps a bit. Its a very great job and growing career but it can also be challenging I want to become a farm vet and I have a lot of experience just with those two years of tech school. I still have to get into college but just remember its not all about loving on the animals there's a lot more involved with it. Really hope this helps :) if you have any questions feel free to message me and sorry for the book
Vet tech is a health industry, if you don't think you could be a nurse 80% you may not be able to be a vet tech. That's what I told the younger students looking into taking the class on tour day. If you don't think you could handle pre nursing, be careful signing up for vet tech. We do a lot of the same stuff including more. Hopefully you find a career path that's for you :) even its not in vet tech there are plenty of animal jobs avalible. I would do some online research and look up some videos. Visit the programs at the colleges and talk to students and the teachers. :)
