@mom47172, no melatonin is a sleep agent it's already in our bodies but sometimes our body signals don't pick up a high enough dose to make us go to sleep but it's over the counter and is very affordable
You can have too much of anything. Natural or not. I've read it can affect the hormones later during puberty if they take melatonin regularly and don't need it. So just to be safe you might want to ask a doctor

wow i guess just wait till the sleepiness kicks in if they had enough sleep or nap during the day is harder for them to fall asleep early at night.

my doctor recommends melatonin crushed in a sippy, but that's if they are really fighting it

Just wanted to say you shouldn't give melatonin to a child unless their doctor tells you it's okay because it can cause problems for kids
