I have degenerative disk disease (my spine is pretty much disolving) and possibly lordosis (my lower back caves in wayyy to far). I am extremely concerned about labor. I have heard an epidural can increase pain in preexisting back problems so I don't really wanna do that but I'm not even to my second trimester and I already have times when I physically cannot move because my lower back has locked and won't bend at all. sometimes it lasts a few minutes, sometimes a few hours. I don't know how I'm gonna make it to my third trimester, let alone thru labor without breaking my back/being handicapped afterwards.

@tattedmama, I don't even know how severe mine is because no one has ever done any tests. that's what worries me.i could be missing half my spine and not even know it

Sorry to hear about your struggle. There are other pain management options during labor. Talk to your doctor about the pros and cons of each. I hope everything goes well for you.

@kaylajay, your disks aren't disappearing that fast. Haha. I thought the same thing. Your spine is just gonna lock up sometimes. Mine does it. You won't break your back or end up handicapped either. I promise. I'm almost 38 weeks. Back pain is gonna come more often for you than other women, like it does for me, but there isn't much that can be done about it, sadly.

@tattedmama, my degeneration started super early tho. I have been having the pain from it for roughly 8 years. plus the added strain from my spine being curved too much.

I've been dealing with it since I was 12. I'm almost 22. My spine curves to almost a C. I know what I'm talking about when it comes to DDD and pregnancy. You'll be fine. Just talk to your doctor about other pain management options for labor.

@brenking, I really wanna do water birth but the nearest place in state is over 2 hrs away and out of state is still over an hr and I'm not sure my ins covers out of state with it being thru ky gov
