I know I'm going to be the minority here, but I really want a home birth. No hospital unless I have to. But how does that work? Does the baby go to the hospital after to be checked out or what? I know I'll have to go to a midwife and plan to switch once I'm further along and in a safe place in this pregnancy.

you can birth your baby however you want. my aunt had 7 kids and her 4th and 7th pregnancy were high-risk.. she birthed at home. she had a doula and a midwife. You should consult with a dr to have an ambulance on standby. my Dr won't do a home birth buy my hospital also doesn't offer water birth either. a lot of insurance won't cover water birth either so that is disappointing. (: just talk to your provider. @babytilley

you would first have to be approved to have one... you cant just decided to do a homebirth and it's that simple... you have to be approved. you cant be high risk and I'm pretty sure you cant have had a prior c section... like you have to be within certain distance of a hospital in case of an emergency and you have to hire a midwife that will do a homebirth.. and yeah the midwife will be the one that checks the baby!! you'd only be moved to a hospital in case of emergency
