So I'm a little scared... I clean my face with a particular brand that's not sold in stores (a kit). I started using it way before I was pregnant and during. After I wash my face I apply a toner (salicylic acid) and benzoyl peroxide serum... I just read that salicylic acid can seep through the skin and affect the baby, is that really true? Ever heard of it? Baby's last ultrasound she was healthy and normal (so I was told) and her heartbeat I heard this week was 150bmp but I'm afraid she could of gotten underlying affects from my facial cleanser...

she's probably fine. I would just stop using it until after birth

It is a class C, which does not necessarily cause serious harm, but you definitely should not use it anymore knowing this. I would just stop using it until after birth and after you're through breast feeding, if you plan on breast feeding. It most likely didn't do any harm, but it certainly CAN. Just stop using it.

Talk to your doctor before you stop using it. It's probably completely fine.

@shelbysuepippin, @babymay2016 yeah definitely putting it away until after birth/breast feeding. Freaked me out. Just wish I knew this a long time ago but as long as she's fine. Thank you.

Any test that has been done with this specific acid and pregnancy, was using the oral form of it. But based on the results of that they have ruled out any use of any form of it during pregnancy.

@tattedmama, I might give her a call just to know but until then my face can survive

I read it's only okay to use it if it contains less than 2%, but I just wouldn't risk it. There are safer ways to treat acne during pregnancy.

@babymay2016, I heard of the cause of the oral which makes sense since we can't even take the oral yeast infection pill. But I've never heard of the acid topically potentially being harmful until now and idk how I even found out about it but was never told to stay away from certain ingredients in skin care.. It's 1.0% but yeah not worth the risk

Well anything that you put on your body can also get into your blood stream and make it's way to baby. I was told at some point to watch out for stuff in skin care, but I just use a pretty basic face wash and just try not to even use that. No matter what I do pregnancy has brought on acne, so I just roll with it for now haha
