if you were there for only three months then she can't claim you, unless she lies on her taxes. my mom tried to do the same thing, but I wasn't living with her and I was working.

Note: Deduction does not equal amount of money in a tax return. It is just a deduction to the amount of taxes she needs to pay in. By claiming you, her amount needed to be paid in goes down by $4,000, but what she gets back (or pays in) still depends on what she already paid in aside from that. If that makes sense. My husband and I have 2 kids ($8,000 deduction), but we are only getting back like $300 from federal.

She gets a $4,000 deduction for claiming you. and you can still claim yourself, but it can become a long drawn out process with auditing and what not. I would make sure you have documentation that you support yourself more than 50% of the year. best example would be if you are paying rent somewhere, have them give you a copy of your lease (if you don't have one already) and rent payments.

if she takes care of your more then half the time she can claim you...if you work regardless you have to put your taxes in...you will get less money back , but if she doesn't claim you then you will get more
