My boyfriend has a little boy who is a little over a year and a half. He has been working with trying to potty train him for a good 7 months with no success (mostly due to different parenting styles between the mother and father). Now that his mother has been fired from work and can no longer afford diapers, she wants to potty train their son. Any suggestions on techniques that will work at both homes even though parenting styles are completely different?

I swear that's the only way we ever pick him up is in wet clothes, yet it's his father's fault that he constantly has a nasty butt rash.

firstly he's to young...he's not gonna be potty trained this early...it's rare to find kids that are...secondly if they have different parenting skills that means there's different discipline skills & sometimes that plays a big part in potty training... rewards for doing gud but with my daughter I wud pop her once if she peed bekuz I did the bottomless training so she wud be peein on the floor she eventually got tired of bein popped...no drinking like 2 hours before bed & peein right before bed...the whole waiting game didn't work for me jus letting her sit there till she peed...bekuz she didn't learn her body that way like her urge to go...smh thas crazy...they need to at least agree on that or she need to find a way to get diapers & be lazy...

she sounds so unfit to be having a baby. when I first started to potty train my son my household was on board but his fathers wasn't, but now that we all live together we got on board and one thing that we did was only leave underwear on him, since it was summer. and when he peed we would let him sit in it for a few minutes because honestly wet clothes are more uncomfortable then diapers. and after eating or drinking we would make him sit on the toilet for a few minutes, but now he's 4 and wears pull ups at night just in case he goes pee while sleeping. and she should make him go pee before bed with nothing to drink or eat at least 1-2 hours before bed. but from what you said, she's probably going to leave him in wet clothes, poor baby.

@kelseys, she has been known to leave him to do it own thing and without changing him for a day. There have been days that I have picked him up from her house and she has told me that he hasn't eaten all day and that she doesn't have money for diapers and money to go out at night, so she only changed him once in the entire 9 hour day that he was there. :/

it isn't going to work unless they both agree on how to do it.
