I hope I don't sound stupid, but someone explain to me about what a midwife is and what they do,…

a midwife is a care provider for your pregnancy

the hospital here has a set of drs who can care for you or midwife its up to you

and u still give birth in a hospital and in most cases if the hospital excepts your insurance period the midwives do too

so, if I decide to have a midwife I can still give birth at the hospital?

some midwives are strong believers in drug free some dont mind the main difference between a midwife and dr is midwives tend to be more in tune to what you want more than the science of birthing

Lmbo okay first your mom is hilarious 😂. Second midwives usually sometimes focus more so on natural birthing. Where as OBs don't. Some midwives do deliver in hospitals as well. My dr is an Midwife and OB so she is comfortable with delivering either way. Some OBs are completely against natural births.

yes i worked with a midwife with my daugter and had her in the hospital

at my hospital they gave me a midwife but they basically are on call once you go into labor they help through your pregnancy and the birthing process. My midwife will be there to help me through labor

I'm seeing midwives in a hospital and they're completely covered by my insurance. They are certified to fully deliver the baby.

Both my kids have been delivered by a midwife in the hospital. It depends on if they are under a clinic or hospital to see if your insurance pays for it. The only difference for ours here is that they can't do c sections. But that's it. Mine induced me, gave me meds, was with me through everything and I'm guaranteed to have her or her assoc there to deliver me and not the 1/7 chance of having the doctor I could've seen

You can still have a midwife and get an epidural. I think midwives are better because they will not rush you and they just have better bedside manners if that makes sense. They will let you control your own delivery basically.

I like midwives because mine has been more available to me than any other doctor that I've had..I'm trying not to be bias but I love my midwife see been so helpful I would recommend her to anyone

My midwife was an OB. I loved her. She did everything any other OBGYN did except do a c section...... She did my pap after, my checks throughout the pregnancy, and broke my water and authorized my inducement. Had I needed a C she would've over seen it but a doctor would've done it

At what point do I have to make a final decision to have a midwife or not? I'm 16 weeks and have been seeing an ob. Is it too late? How does it work as far as insurance companies work. I started seeing the ob from the time I found out I was pregnant so the insurance has already been paying the dr. Can I just randomly switch? How do I find a midwife? Do they have special websites or something? Sorry if my questions are kinda stupid. But this is baby number 4 and I've never done anything outside of the normal ob each time. Really think this may be my last baby so I would like to think outside of the box and try a new experience this time.

I had an ob with my first and now have see 3 midwives (we rotate for appointments so I can see everyone because you get who's ever on call during your labor). I feel like the midwives are so much more personal and take time instead of rushing me in and out of appointments. I like that they're not as "intervention minded" as my ob was too.

@butterflynycki, Google midwives in your area. Some may be in a clinic or hospital, some may be at a birth center. Some may be covered and some may not :) it really depends. There's soooo many options out there when it comes to your birth!

awe! @rika25912 I am due Aug 20th so far anyway! I haven't been to a real doctor yet. I go to the pregnancy clinic on the 20th for an ultrasound I am hoping I'm further along than I think :)
