I did the blood work only because IF there was something wrong I could learn and try to prepare myself as much as I could. Because feeding a baby with down syndrome is much different than other babies. I mean I'd love my baby no matter what, just helps you educate yourself and maybe find a local support group that can help as well. That's if it happens but it helps you in the long run.

I did them because my dr convinced me I should be prepared if something was wrong and I would be more relaxed if everything came back normal. I was terrified but after getting normal results it did help relax me.

Yes, I did testing. I was adopted & so was the dad. We have no clue what we were carriers of. I'm a carrier of one things but the chances of my daughter getting it is extremely slim. I felt so much better knowing since that way I could learn as much as I needed before she arrived.

@miminicole, if you were drinking & smoking before you found out you should be okay. If you were smoking marijuana though I wouldn't worry. There was a study in Jamaica with mothers who did & didn't smoke marijuana & throughout their pregnancies & up to age 5 the children showed no real problems & actually showed that the children born to mothers who smoked were socializing quicker & easier as well as a few other things. Look up Jamaican marijuana study during pregnancy. There's quite a few links to it.

No. I'm not getting one done albeit they keep asking if I want one. No. My baby is fine and I trust God. Everything is in His capable hands. I am assured of this one thing. I think it's really up to you and how you feel about it. Sometimes the tests can come back that there is something wrong and really there isn't.
