So this is my l&d story:
I was 37 weeks and I was at one of my regular dr's appts, (it was considered the high risk dr, moms to be with gestational diabetes and other pregnancy related conditions go to them) I had to go there to monitor my babies heart rate. The day before I was at my regular ob appt, who also did regular NST's to monitor my baby, everything looked fine. This was all on a Friday morning, earlier in the week on Monday I was at the high risk dr's again getting a full scan on my son to see how he's growing and developing, the doctors never notified me of anything abnormal at that appt, just that they didn't want me to wait a week to come back, that they wanted me to come back that Friday. At my appt on Friday I was hooked up to the monitor for the 30-45 mins like usual when the nurse came in and looked at the sheet. She was counting the number of times my babies heart rate dropped, she had me lay on my left side to see if that helped things, she came back in about 10 minutes and nothing had changed. While all this was going on I was texting my boyfriend, I said to him "when he does this I wish they would just send me to the hospital!" His heart rate has always fluctuated a little bit towards the end of my pregnancy. The sonographer did an ultrasound and saw that my sons umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck. I asked her if that could be the reason his heart rate was dropping, she said yes, or that the placenta could not be giving him enough oxygen. Shortly after she told me that my dr came in and showed me the monitor strip and how many times his heart rate dropped, he told me "you're going to the hospital, and I don't know if your baby will tolerate labor" I was terrified. I was shaking and had so much adrenaline going that I couldn't even figure out who to call first. I called my bf, he didn't answer, called both my parents and they didn't answer either. I finally got a hold of them when I got to labor and delivery and my bf got there a couple hours later. Prior to that my regular ob dr came in and let me know that a c section would be the safest way to deliver him. I remember asking my dr if this is the real deal, because I couldn't believe I was having him. She said yes you're having this baby today. As my bf and I were waiting to go back, we initially thought we would be waiting around 4 hrs because I had ate breakfast. They took us back way sooner because his heart rate continued to drop because he was in distress. I walked to the operating room with my boyfriend, the anesthesiologist gave me my spinal and helped me lay down before it started to kick in. A few minutes later I heard my sweet boy for the first time, and it was the most amazing thing ever, I couldn't help but to start crying tears of joy. They cleaned him up and brought him over to my bf to hold, he brought him over to me so I could see him before they put me to sleep to stitch me up. His umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck. I could not be happier to be his mom, it is such a blessing.
