has anyone self checked for dilation? and if not dilated, what are good ways to help start it?

How do you know if you are dilated? Does your water have to break so you can be dilated? I'm 38 weeks and I still don't feel labor stuff lol

Contraction questions

I had a membrane sweep today. Before the sweep I was 3-4 dilated & 75% effaced.
