It is optional. I personally recommend it because my dr told me that if it came back for certain things that the baby may need immediate attention for soon as he or she is born then they will know and be ready in advance. Say it came back saying something was wrong but could be fixed easily with a surgery rite after birth. Your dr can have it prepped and ready instead of the surprise issue. But it's completely up to you.
