Yes you can give him even though he doesnt sit on his own. Just make sure u hold him up. Like in a bumbo sit or carseat. I started to give my both son's food at 4months, and he didnt sit on their own. I had them on my lap or in thier carseat while given the food.
I started feeding my daughter baby food when she was 2 months. I feel like she was ready for it. No she couldn't sit up on her own but she could sit up with support. I always sat her up on the couch or something and she would eat. Most people think 2 months is too early to feed baby food but she knew exactly what to do. She's now a healthy 4 month old who weighs 14 pounds. If you feel like your baby is ready for baby food then I think it'll be fine.

No, you should not give them baby food unless they can sit up on their own.

Look into the "virgin gut" and baby led weaning. It's definitely best to wait until after 6 months when they're showing solid signs of being ready.
