so I was born with a hernia, right above my belly button. my doctor said it can be dangerous in RARE cases and can kill women if you don't go to the hospital right away after you feel pain. I want to know if any of you mommies have ever had a hernia in a similar place while pregnant! how did it affect you? and did it ever cause you any pain? I've been worried more then I should be and would love to hear some feedback.

Hernias will not kill you straight away if they begin to hurt. They can only kill you if a piece of bowel becomes incarcerated and dies, then complications due to that can kill you. However you'd be experience excruciating pain long before you'd die from that, and the surgery to fix a hernia is very quick and simple. Not to mention, most hernias do not incarcerate bowel. Most you can move the bowel back and forth through it and it doesn't get stuck (which is when they are dangerous). Pregnancy definitely can make any hernias larger because of abdominal muscle stretching, so that is a possibility.

Yeah I knew that I would feel severe pain. then obviously would have to go to the ER but I just don't know anyone that has had this same situation so I just wanted to know some more stuff about it because I know absolutely nothing! I've also been worried about the baby kicking the hernia or pressing on it. I'm just worried about harming the baby and me! I'm only 13 weeks so I barely have a bump! but I've just been so worried!

it's just such a weird place to have a hernia especially for pregnancy like it's right above my belly button
