seeing alot of mummy's posting about their birth stories etc! here's mine... at the start of October I was 8 months pregnant and extremely excited for our son to come along and complete our family, we went for a scan because my bump was measuring big, we noticed our baby's head had a large amount of fluid in it, I was referred to our main hospital here, the day they seen me they admitted me straight away because of the state me and my baby were in, they wanted to give me an emergency c section that day, at that stage all I knew was he had fluid in his brain and I wasn't sure if he was going to make it or not. later the next day I had my c section (21.10.15) that was the best and worst day of my life to be frank.. as soon as our little bundle was born he was whisked away from me and taken to the NICU unit to be treated. I was told he was breathing and on their way out the door I heard his first cry! the following days were terrible, more dribs and drabs of information. my son was born with hydrocephalus (fluid in the brain) & thrombocytopenia (your blood doesnt clot) with a large cyst leaving a large amount of his brain damaged. my blood and his father's blood were incompatible therefore my body created antibodies to attack him, we very nearly lost him. he was born with a platelet count of 3 instead of in the hundreds. at a week old he had brain & stomach surgery to place a shunt which would drain the fluid from his head to stop more brain matter getting damaged. he spent 5 weeks in the NICU which felt like years! since he's came home he's completely thriving, he makes us so proud to call him our son! that's my story x
