@bbjonesy, the best way to do it would be with foil... But yes doing it by yourself would be hard, there is a hairdye you can get that doesn't have any of those chemicals in it it's called OLYA or something it'll say on the box that it doesn't contain those chemicals

As long as you don't breathe I a lot of the chemicals and you don't go right up to your scalp you will be fine
